The Town of Eagle, Colorado (pop. 7,500) seeks a dynamic Chief of Police. Incorporated in 1905, this historic town operates under a Council-Manager form of government led by a 7-member Town Council, elected at-large. Eagle is less than a 40-minute drive from the world class ski resorts of Vail and Beaver Creek. The Eagle/Vail airport is five miles from downtown. Residents enjoy excellent schools, high quality municipal services, and access to extensive public lands. Skiing, biking, paddling, hiking, golfing, fishing, and hunting are some of the many outdoor activities enjoyed by residents. The Town sits at an elevation of 6621 ft. and boasts a moderate mountain climate with an average of 290 days of sun each year.

Under the Town Manager’s direction, Eagle’s new police chief will build upon the department’s long history of effective and efficient services and strong community relations to lead EPD into its next era. The current Eagle Police Department operating structure consists of 19 team members, including the chief executive, lieutenant, four patrol sergeants, one detective, one school resource officer, one code enforcement officer, eleven patrol officers, and two administrative records/support staff working with an annual budget of nearly $3.7 million annually.

The Town of Eagle is seeking a compassionate and community-minded law enforcement professional ready to take the reins of a successful, hardworking department. The successful candidate for this position will be a “working chief” well versed in industry best practices, accreditation standards, and evolving technology.

Qualifications:
• Candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree, plus 10 years of increasingly responsible police officer (POST) experience, four or more of which were at the level of sergeant or higher.
• Prefer experience supervising a staff of ten (10) or more.
• Prefer completion of a graduate degree and/or demonstration of continued professional development which may include attendance at the FBI National Academy, or another similar program is desired.
• Qualified candidates will demonstrate exceptional leadership qualities, including suitable annual reviews, completion of relevant police and management training, and successful testing.
• Ability to successfully become Colorado POST Certified, following Colorado POST standards and time limits, to transfer law enforcement credentials from another state that meets the minimum Colorado POST criteria within timeframe agreed upon by the Town.
• Qualified candidates will demonstrate exceptional leadership qualities, including suitable annual reviews, completion of relevant police and management training, and successful testing.
• Valid driver license and exceptional driving record. Successful completion and passing of a background check.
• Experience in a rural mountain community is highly desirable.

Compensation between $139,440 - $174,000 Depending on qualifications. Excellent benefit package, 7% retirement match. An employer assisted housing benefit (EHOP) program is available. Prefer candidate resides in Eagle County within 6-9 months of employment.
