The City of Clive, Iowa (population 18,601) is seeking candidates for the position of police chief. The current chief is retiring after serving forty (40) years in law enforcement, with the last twelve (12) years as chief of the Clive Police Department. Clive is located in Dallas and Polk Counties, Iowa, and is part of the Des Moines – West Des Moines Metropolitan Statistical Area. Clive is known for its Greenbelt Park and trail system running through the community. Located in central Iowa, immediately adjacent to Des Moines, and several other suburban cities, citizens have access to a large variety of cultural events, ample dining, retail, recreation, sporting, employment, educational and entertainment options. Education Requirements:
Graduation from a college or university with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, public administration, political science or related area. A master’s degree and graduation from the FBI Academy or similar program are preferred. A combination of education, training and experience may be considered in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.

Experience:
A minimum of 10 years of work experience in law enforcement, with 5 years in a management/supervisory capacity, and 3 years at the rank of lieutenant or above. A combination of education, training and experience may be considered in lieu of this experience requirement.

Salary and Benefits:
The police chief is an FLSA exempt position.

Salary: Negotiable DOQ; salary range is $134,648 - $175,057
Generous benefit package including: paid vacation, sick leave, holidays, Municipal Fire and Police Retirement System of Iowa (MFPRSI) contributions, group health/dental/vision, life insurance, and flexible health/dependent care spending plan contributions.

Certification:
Candidates must have a valid Iowa driver’s license, be able to obtain an Iowa Professional Permit to Carry Weapons, and meet the licensing standards established by the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy ILEA | Iowa Law Enforcement Academy. The successful candidate (if non-Iowa Certified) must pass a physical agility test, cognitive exam (POST test), psychological examination (MMPI – II), physical examination, and drug screen.

Residency:
The City requires that the successful candidate live within the city limits within a reasonable amount of time. The City may consider a candidate who currently lives/owns a home in the Des Moines Metro area.
