Village of Oak Park, Illinois (population 54,583), is seeking police professionals with experience as deputy police chief or position with similar duties and responsibilities as candidates for the position of Deputy Chief of the Oak Park Police Department. The Village of Oak Park is located nine miles west of downtown Chicago and bordered by Chicago to the east and north. Oak Park is a community of choice; diverse, socially progressive, and nationally recognized for architecturally significant historic neighborhoods and thriving business areas. The Police Department has a complement of 147 employees that includes 117 sworn officers with an operating budget of approximately $27 Million. Candidates meeting the position criteria, with a progressive history of exceptional law enforcement, capable of working with the recently appointed Police Chief to achieve new levels of success are encouraged to apply. There are two (2) Deputy Chief Positions (Field Services and Support Services) expected to be filled through this recruitment. The positions are being filled following the recent retirement and promotion of the incumbent Deputy Police Chiefs. The Deputy Chiefs are responsible for management and administrative work and assist in the planning and coordination of Police Department operations including field operations, criminal investigations, management services and records management; they coordinate assigned activities with other Village departments and outside agencies and provide highly responsible and complex administrative support to the Police Chief. Candidates must be adept at and show a history of engagement with an active and involved community, demonstrate a sincere commitment to 21st Century Policing, a vision of equity and inclusion within the Police Department and beyond, and the ability to cultivate a positive work climate that is reflective of the Village’s Core Values.
