Commerce City is a home-rule City operating under a council-manager form of government. The City Council is comprised of nine members, including the Mayor. The next Police Chief will be a trusted leader with a positive attitude, excellent communication skills, and strong community connections.

A bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, public administration, business administration, or a related field and ten years of experience in high-level management of a law enforcement organization is required. A master’s degree is preferred. Training at the FBI National Academy, Northwest Police Academy School of Police Staff and Command, or Southern Police Institute, or Senior Management Institute for Police is highly desired. An equivalent combination of education and law enforcement/management experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, may be considered. Must possess a valid State of Colorado driver’s license upon appointment. Must possess or be able to obtain Colorado P.O.S.T. certification. Must be a resident of Commerce City within three months of the hire date.

The salary range for this position is $158,431-228,324, dependent on qualifications and experience.
