The City of Waukee, Iowa (population 26,495) is seeking candidates for the position of police chief. The current chief is retiring after serving thirty-nine (39) years in law enforcement, with the last eight and one half (8.5) years as chief of the Waukee Police Department. Waukee is located in Dallas County, Iowa, and is part of the Des Moines – West Des Moines Metropolitan Statistical Area. Waukee is one of the fastest growing cities in the state, and the Waukee Community School District is the fastest-growing school district in the State of Iowa. Education Requirements:
Graduation from a college or university with a bachelor’s degree in law enforcement or a related discipline. A master’s degree is preferred. A combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.
Experience:
A minimum of five (5) years supervisory experience. Five (5) years of work experience in law enforcement at the administrative level.
Salary and Benefits:
The police chief is an FLSA exempt position.
Salary: Negotiable DOQ; current salary range is $114,511 – $156,717

Certification:
Candidates must have a valid driver’s license, be able to obtain an Iowa Professional Permit to Carry Weapons, and meet the licensing standards established by the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy ILEA | Iowa Law Enforcement Academy. The successful candidate (if non-Iowa Certified) must pass a physical agility test, cognitive exam (POST test), psychological examination (MMPI – II), physical examination, and drug screen.
Residency:
The City requires that the successful candidate live within a thirty (30) minute radius of the city limits within six months of hire.
