Westchester County Department of Public Safety is seeking an experienced law enforcement professional to lead this department to protect the safety and security of all who live and work in our county or come here to visit. With a population of more than 1 million residents, it is the mission of the Department to enhance the quality of life in Westchester County by working in partnership with the community and, consistent with constitutional rights, enforcing laws, preserving the peace, reducing fears, and providing a safe environment.

The Commissioner directs, plans, coordinates, monitors, and evaluates the operations of the department to ensure the protection of life and property, prevention of crime, preservation of public peace and enforcement of all laws and ordinances within the department’s jurisdiction. Extensive and constructive working relationships with key local, state and federal law enforcement personnel are crucial for enhancing police services to the residents of Westchester County.

The successful candidate will possess a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice or closely related field and five years of experience in law enforcement operations as a superior ranking officer serving a large population.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Must be able to obtain and maintain a federal security clearance at the “Secret” or higher level throughout course of employment.
