Police Officer-Pascagoula Police Department (MS)

The City of Pascagoula is seeking applicants for the position of Police Officer. The City of Pascagoula is located along the Mississippi Sound, at the mouth of the Pascagoula River. With a population of 22,392. Pascagoula is the county seat of Jackson County, Mississippi. Pascagoula is a major industrial city along the Gulf Coast. Pascagoula is home to the state’s largest employer, Ingalls Shipbuilding, owned by Huntington Ingalls Industries. Other major industries include one of the largest Chevron refineries in the country, and Signal International, an oil platform builder. The Pascagoula Police Department is a CALEA accredited department with opportunities for specialized assignments and training.

Qualified candidates must have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record and a stable employment record with no history of any conduct, which may affect suitability for law enforcement work. Candidates must pass each step of the selection process, which includes a physical fitness test, written test, oral interview board, polygraph test, psychological evaluation, and a thorough background investigation. Compensation
FY2021 Starting Pay: $18.15/hour. Up to
Member – Public Employees’ Retirement System of Mississippi (PERS)

Recruitment/Selection Process (You must pass each step of the selection process before you go to the next step.)

Step 1: Complete an Application

Applications must be received by 5:00 PM on October 8, 2021. Qualified candidates will be notified by mail and e-mail that they are eligible to test. Information for a study guide for the written test will be provided in the mailing.

Step 2: Testing (Physical Agility and Written Test – Saturday, October 23, 2021 scheduled for same day)
Information about physical agility requirements is posted online and will be e-mailed to qualifying applicants.
Written Test administered by the Civil Service Commission.
A preliminary interview will be conducted with those applicants who have passed both the written test and physical assessment.

Step 3: Oral Review Board
Step 4: Background Packet Completion and Investigation
Step 5: CVSA Examination
Applicants who pass the background investigation and are being considered for sworn employment, will undergo a CVSA examination.

Step 6: Psychological Testing

Final Steps: Eligibility List, Conditional Job Offer, and Medical and Drug Screen.
Candidates who pass all of the above are placed on an eligibility list. This is not a guarantee of employment; however, the City of Pascagoula does make job offers from the applicant pool. Subsequently, if a conditional job offer is made to a candidate by the Chief of Police, the candidate must successfully complete a medical and drug screen before a final job offer is awarded
