The Fontana Unified School District is located in Southern California in what is known as the Inland Empire, a fast-growing community 50 miles east of Los Angeles. The District’s 45 schools serve students from preschool through adult education in a diverse urban/suburban environment. Fontana’s schools are recognized nationwide for their fast growth in student achievement. The District is the second largest employer in Fontana with over 3,654 employees: 1,909 certificated, 1,488 support staff, and 257 administrators. The Fontana Unified School District is seeking a self-confident and decisive leader for their new Police Lieutenant. The ideal candidate will be honest, trustworthy, ethical, and possess the highest level of integrity. A good role model that can mentor staff is sought by the District. The new Lieutenant will be well-versed in the latest training regarding on-campus safety issues and will become very familiar with the District’s emergency response protocols. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are a necessity to a candidate’s success in this position, as the Police Lieutenant will be expected to successfully develop positive working relationships with school boards and administrators, staff, faculty, and students at all grade levels while working collaboratively with regional law enforcement agencies. Strong administrative skills are imperative to succeeding in this position, as are strong tactical, leadership, and oral and written communication skills.
Four (4) years of recent law enforcement experience, including two (2) years of experience at the rank of Sergeant or higher are required. Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Police Science, Law Enforcement, Administration of Justice, Business Management or Administration, or a related field; a Master’s degree, graduation from the FBI National Academy, Command College, or other executive level training is highly desired. Possession of a valid POST Supervisory Certificate or out-of-state equivalent and the ability to obtain a POST Management Certificate within 2 years of employment is also required.
The salary range for the Lieutenant position is $104,686 to $124,842; placement within this range is dependent upon qualifications and experience. The District also offers an attractive benefits package.
