LOCATION: Southern District – Lower Huron, Willow, Oakwoods and Lake Erie Metroparks


SALARY RANGE: $80,842 – $89,261 annually DOQ

General Statement of Duties: Under the direction of the Chief of Police, this position will supervise the activities of a law enforcement district, review and analyze the effectiveness of safety and protection programs, investigate complaints of suspected criminal activity, conduct annual performance evaluations of law enforcement staff, administer disciplinary action, prepare and administer district law enforcement budget. This position performs a variety of supervisory and administrative duties related to the assigned district law enforcement activities and staff. Creativity, initiative, enthusiasm, positive demeanor, confidentiality, and reliability are crucial to the success of this position.


Bachelor’s degree in related field required. Applicants with 8 or more years of related service will be given credit toward meeting the minimum educational requirements and will be considered for the position.
Six years of supervisory experience in law enforcement, at the rank of Police Sergeant or above.
Certified Police Officer in the State of Michigan.
Experience of community policing, police practices, and laws and rules of evidence.
Experience showing demonstrated sensitivity for cultural diversity among employees and park visitors.
Knowledge of management functions, and law enforcement rules, regulations and procedures.
Ability to obtain and maintain MCOLES certification.
Ability to maintain proficiency with duty firearm in accordance with MCOLES Certification, HCMA rules and regulations.
Ability to establish and maintain effective and positive relationships with co-workers and the public.
Ability to observe situations analytically and objectively and to react with good independent judgment within legal guidelines.
Ability to communicate verbally and in written form to prepare necessary reports and records.
Ability to supervise and train employees.
Must maintain a valid State of Michigan motor vehicle license and an acceptable driving record.
Candidate has had an employment disciplinary record clear of suspension during the preceding 36 months.
Unsullied personal life free from crimes of moral turpitude as determined by a criminal history and background investigation.
Free from illicit substances other than those prescribed under a licensed physician’s care.
Upon offer of employment, satisfactory completion of a physical examination to include drug screen and psychological examination. (External Candidates Only)
May be assigned to work in other parks and districts as needed and if necessary.
May be required to adjust schedule to meet organizational needs, including special events, evenings, weekends & holidays.
Ability to perform all the essential job functions and typical physical demands unassisted and without delay.
