Executive Director, School Police-Duval County Public Schools (FL)

Job Summary
To lead the Duval County School Police Department and continue to advance its commitment to safety for students, staff, and the community in a supportive teaching and learning environment. Administers a comprehensive school police function, including but not limited to, law enforcement, criminal investigations, records management, emergency communications, youth and gang violence prevention and intervention, professional training and development, and student/community education.


Essential Functions
1. Leads, directs, designs, implements, supervises and manages all School Police operations, policies, procedures, administrative guidelines, guiding documents and training programs including identifying, implementing and evaluating policies, procedures, and best practices associated with school safety/security, public safety, law enforcement, and emergency management.
2. Directs and supervises all law enforcement activities and insures that district law enforcement policies, practices, and standard operation procedures are in accordance with federal, state, and local laws including the creation of the annual report.
3. Oversees recruitment, selection, orientation, training, coaching, counseling, monitoring, appraising and disciplining of staff.
4. Works professionally and collaboratively with all district personnel. Responds to school needs, administrator and principal requests, and community inquires in a timely and effective manner.
5. Plans and coordinates with local law enforcement officers all requests for other police assistance.
6. Provides executive-level leadership in short- and long-term planning, organization, and implementation of District policing, law enforcement, safety, and security goals and objectives.
7. Directs and supervises the annual physical audits, safety/security assessments, briefings and safety-related training of all schools and buildings including school personnel, students, and staff. Recommends corrective action to the superintendent as appropriate.
8. Coordinates and designs protection/security strategies for large and special events held on school properties including travel.
9. Develops the department’s budget and tracks all expenditures. This includes establishing criteria for purchasing, maintaining and replacing police equipment.
10. Performs other duties as assigned.


Education: Master’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Fifteen (15) years police supervisory experience or five (5) years police administrative experience.

Certifications & Licenses: State of Florida Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission Certificate as a Law Enforcement Officer.
