Police Chief-City of Waco (TX)

Located on Texas’ celebrated Brazos River, midway between Dallas and Austin, Waco is the largest city in Central Texas. With a population of almost 140,000, it is the 25th largest city in the state. Its central location, coupled with a reputation for friendly hospitality, have made Waco famous as the “Heart of Texas.”

The City is seeking applications for the position of Police Chief. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative and inclusionary leader with a documented record of engaging diverse communities. He or she will be dedicated to ensuring the equitable application of public safety initiatives in a manner that builds trust and legitimacy. Leadership experience that provides for officer safety, well-being, and overall health is equally important.

The position requires a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, law, public or business administration, or a related field. A master’s degree is preferred. A minimum of seven years as a law enforcement manager with five years at the command level or higher is required. The candidate should have successfully completed an appropriate combination of recognized executive law enforcement management and leadership programs such as The FBI National Academy, Senior Management Institute for Police at PERF, the Southern Police Institute, and/ or the Leadership Command College at LEMIT. An equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge and skills may be considered. Eligibility for a Master Peace Officer certification through the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) is required. Texas Police Chief’s certification is required within two years of hire.
