|The Hanover Police Department is seeking an innovative, progressive, experienced law enforcement professional, with cultural sensitivity, creative strategy, and a commitment to an active model of community policing and engagement for the position of Lieutenant. The Lieutenant is an important member of the department’s leadership team. Our department is committed to the community policing philosophy. The Lieutenant is responsible for the mid-level supervision of Sergeants, Corporals, Detectives, Officers and civilian employees and day-to-day supervision and management of the Patrol and/or Investigations Divisions, as assigned. The Lieutenant promotes the department’s managerial philosophy and is expected to exert his/he authority to ensure the proper efficiency, discipline, appearance, and conduct of personnel. The position ensures compliance with department’s regulations, addressing all infractions, taking corrective action in consultation with the Captain or Chief of Police.
This is a sworn law enforcement officer position in the State of New Hampshire. Successful candidates must
have a minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years progressively responsible experience in law enforcement including four (4) years of progressive supervisory law enforcement experience equivalent to a Sergeant or higher in a comparably sized or larger law enforcement agency. Minimum of an Associate’s Degree or equivalent amount of training and experience. Bachelor’s Degree from accredited college or university in Police Science or related field preferred. Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work; demonstrated writing skills necessary for the generation of reports, correspondence and related work product, and the review and approval of reports generated by others for content, clarity and completeness. Certified New Hampshire police officer or ability to obtain certification within six months of employment from the New Hampshire Police Standards and Training Council (NHPSTC). The NHPSTC has a 3-year on-going physical fitness requirement standard for all sworn personnel. Successful completion of a law enforcement command college course such as the FBI National Academy, Northwestern School of Police Staff and Command, or equivalent course is also preferred. The State of New Hampshire does not recognize federal or military law enforcement training for certification. The successful candidate is expected to establish their principal residence in New Hampshire or Vermont within approximately 30 minutes driving distance from the Hanover Police Department within a period of time to be negotiated with the Chief of Police.
SALARY INFORMATION AND APPLICATION PROCESS:
The salary range is $71,358 to $108,156.41 with compensation negotiable based upon experience and qualifications. Additionally, the Hanover Police Department offers education and physical fitness incentives and the Town of Hanover offers a competitive benefits package.
