CHIEF OF POLICE
CITY OF GRINNELL, IOWA
The City of Grinnell, Iowa (population 9,218) is seeking candidates for the position of Chief of Police. The current Chief is retiring after serving thirty-three and a half (33 ½) years in law enforcement, with the last eight and a half (8 ½ ) as Chief of the Grinnell Police Department. Grinnell is the largest community in Poweshiek County, located adjacent to Interstate 80, approximately forty (40) minutes east of Des Moines and sixty (60) minutes west of Iowa City. Grinnell is a full-service community with ample dining, retail, recreation, sporting, employment, cultural, and entertainment options. Grinnell is also home to Grinnell College, nationally recognized as a leading undergraduate institution. This is an exceptional opportunity for the right person. Graduation from a college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in police science, law enforcement, criminal justice, public administration or a closely related field is preferred. A combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree.
Ten (10) years of experience in police operations, including at least five (5) years of law enforcement supervisory experience is preferred.
Salary and Benefits:
The Chief of Police is an FLSA exempt position
Salary: Negotiable DOQ; current range is $77,886 – $101,252

Candidates must have a valid driver’s license and meet the licensing standards established by the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy www.state.ia.us/ilea, within one year. The successful candidate must pass a physical examination, psychological examination, and drug screen.
Must live within the city limits within six months of hire.
