I just wanted to provide a few updates. As many of you are aware, we entered into a partnership with the Department of Juvenile Justice and Leon County Schools. Last week we completed the Law and Your Community Presentations for all of the 7th Grade Civic Classes at NIMS Middle School. It was a huge hit and we have received a lot of positive feedback from the students and staff.
Next week we will be going to Fairview Middle School starting on Tuesday, September 11, 2018, at 10:00am. I know most of you cannot make all the classes but if you could come for the scenario portions of the classes that would be great.
The full schedule for remaining schools (RAA and Griffin) is attached as well. Please email me if you can attend any of the sessions so I can let the school staff know ahead of time. If you have not seen the presentation this is also an opportunity to see it locally.
I am looking at trying to schedule the Law and Your Community training session for the sworn NOBLE Members around lunch instead of after-hours or on the weekend. What I need to know is how many members would be able to attend a lunch session. I will say I should be able to get through the presentation in an hour but I would want to have an hour and a half dedicated for the actual training. I have received several names of those interested in receiving the training. Non-sworn members can attend the training. There is a full process for the training and certification and that will be explained at the training.
On September 15, 2018, we have been asked to conduct an ID A Child Event at New Mount Zion AME Church located at 1401 Old Bainbridge Road. I need at least four volunteers for this event. We will conduct the event from 10:00am-12:00pm. Set up will be at 9:30am. If you can only come for an hour that is fine, just need to know who is available to assist.
On September 27, 2018, our monthly meeting will be held at New Mount Zion AME Church at 11:30am. We selected a food committee at the last meeting and it was discussed that members will be asked to donate $10.00 for the lunch, so we need a head count of who will be attending earlier now instead of the week of the meeting. If you know you will be at the meeting, please respond to this email.
On October 6, 2018, there will is the 11th Annual Robin Lotane Hurricane Run in Southwood. The race starts at 8:00am. This is sponsored by the American Red Cross and our very own Cassandra Jenkins is asking for assistance. The cost is $18.00 online registration/ $25.00 on the day of event. Department of Juvenile Justice is also looking for mentors for the four schools that we are conducting the Law and Your Community Presentations at, so that we can continue to foster the positive relationships. If you are able to be a mentor, please let me know. There is a training that you have to attend first before becoming a mentor.
Also we need to have a Dancing with Cops Committee Meeting/Conference call ASAP, so for those that want to me on that committee send an email and I will send a separate email with either a conference call line or a meeting invite, whichever is easier for the group. We are three months away from the event and now is the time to start promoting the event and selecting our celebrity judges for the dance contest.
On a final note – I want to personally thank each of you for your hard work and dedication to this Chapter. It does not go unnoticed. This Chapter is in high demand. We will be traveling to Jacksonville and Marianna in the upcoming weeks to conduct the Law and Your Community Presentations, and we just received another request from Manatee/Sarasota area as well.
Please keep NOBLE Members Jacky Succes and Nathaniel Harris in your thoughts and prayers as they begin the FDLE Process of becoming a Special Agent and starting the Academy. We will be losing them to South Florida, but hopefully they will join the South Florida Chapter of NOBLE when the academy is over. We wish them much success as they begin their law enforcement careers.
If you have any items for the agenda, please send them to me.
